You know, it's strange.....when it comes to mysterious animals like this, it's usually always versions of the Loch Ness Monster or the Yeti that people see. Sea serpents and various undiscovered apes. Occasionally you hear of giant birds.
These days, hoaxing is easier than ever I imagine, what with it being so easy to tamper with photos. However, I don't think it's completely impossible for there to be undiscovered animals hidden in the few wildernesses left on the planet. After all, they're discovering 'new' species all the time, like this crayfish. (The quotes are because the species is only classified as new because the human race didn't know about it. It's obviously been there all along.) But no one makes much of a fuss over a crayfish, or even a new species of bird, insect or reptile because they look very much like all of the other ones we already know about. It's this tantalizing possibility of something weird that keeps people fascinated, decade after decade. If they do discover that giant Lake monsters, or bigfoot (bigfeet....?) are real, I wonder how long it will take for people to get bored with them?
Here's an interesting cryptozoological account from right here in Northumberland County.
A friend's uncle got up early one summer morning to go fishing. It was dawn, and not fully light as he drove up Racetrack Road, heading for Rice Lake. He noticed a figure on the side of the road, and slowed down his truck for a better look. The creature crossed the road in front of him, and he was astonished to note that it walked upright and looked apelike! It turned to look at him and it had very simian features. It was smaller than an average adult human, and walked with a slightly hunched posture. He could not identify the creature as being any known animal.
